Slow tilting of the right leg, 29 min
I'm still on an extension kick.
As I add lessons to the Feldenkrais Treasury, I see how the extension lessons weave together. Soon, I will have ninety-one lessons on fundamental human movements of flexion, extension, and turning!
Extension is fundamental to upright posture. It also invites the strong muscles of the back to reorganize how we access the limbs.
Here is one of my favorite extension lessons.
I love it because I can do it when I'm tired and don't feel much like moving, as I did this week after returning from a camping trip so exhausted I just wanted to rest. But I knew I also wanted to feel stronger and taller in my back after a long car ride and hauling camping stuff around.
Lessons that start small and slow and expand into big movements remind me of the first lessons I ever did where they increased so incrementally even I could do them! I remember being shocked at where I would end up.
A reminder to experiment with these options for engaging with yourself:
Instead of performing, trust the truth of your sensations.
Instead of perfecting, prioritize your comfort.
Instead of struggling, do what's easy.
You don't have to be perfect. Just sense what you're doing and honor that.
